Thai Garden-Dragon Fruit

The most significant happening in my Thai garden this week has been the fruition of my neighbours dragon fruit which has been hanging over the wall for a while now. The night flowering plant has finally delivered the goods.

You may remember that back in June I set you an amazing Thailand quiz which featured a flower. Several people got the right answer or were close. The correct botanical name for the plant with the flower is Cereus Triangularis or Hylocereus Undatus and the fruit it forms is commonly called a Dragon Fruit but is really a variety of Pitaya.

Sadly my neighbour has now reclaimed her fruit so the nice splash of pink has gone. Mind you its not all bad news, since the weather has been fairly dry this week so I have managed a few days in my Thai garden and the hammock has been in full swing.

I have this plant in my garden that fails to grow fruit. But it is funny to see it creeping up the wall.

Mike , I planted two of these 3 years ago and have a real nice vine , but no flower or fruit , maybe it takes a few years to mature , at least you get to enjoy it without all the work and how relaxing to lay in the hammock drink a cup of coffee and daydream and enjoy this life we have here in the LOS Malcolm
