Finding the cheapest flights to Thailand from the UK or Europe is like walking through a minefield with a blindfold on. Most people now book online and are presented with a huge amount of information. Consolidators, agitators and travel agents all vie for your business.
Traditionally the cheapest flights to Thailand from the UK could be found by travelling via the Gulf States although some operators such as Thai Airways, Malaysian or EVA Air offer a discounted flights either from their own web sites or through third parties. Both Thai and EVA fly direct to Bangkok.
Today I would like to offer an alternative cheap flight idea that you can book directly with the airline concerned online. The prices fluctuate and often you can pick up a real bargain.
Air Asia X operates out of London Stanstead airport which is located in Essex, UK and flies direct to Kuala Lumpar in Malaysia. Air Asia X is a true budget airline and will charge you extra for baggage and in flight service. However they offer remarkable value for money and you could break your journey by spending a couple of days in Malaysia to boot.
If for example you wished to visit Thailand during the cool season between November 1st 2009 to February 1st 2010 here's what Air Asia X has on offer today. Leaving Stanstead on 1/11/09 and returning on 2/2/2010 will cost you £320 return on Air Asia and that includes your baggage and onward return flight to either Bangkok, Phuket, Krabi or Chiang Mai. Air Asia X operate Airbus A330/340 on the London leg of the flight which is overnight inbound to Kuala Lumpar. There are also special promotions to upgrade to a premium seat that offers extra leg room and comfort, on the same dates this is £800 return for a poor mans business class flight!
Now I chose a three month period because this is where Air Asia X offers something you are unlikely to find with other discounted prices. In short flexibility, since most bargain airfares are restricted to a month between departure and return.
Now I reckon that has to be one of the cheapest flights to Thailand you will find. Let me know if you can do better!

Hi Mike,
Some useful info for incoming travellers. I alwasy think how lucky we are not to have to think about getting cheap flights anywhere as we're going nowhere.
Take Care
Mike that is a cheap price especially the business class deal. The word "budget" does however put me off as on a long flight I think "quality" is what makes me feel safer and I know the on flight service will be a good standard. The stop in Kuala Lumpar wouldn't bother me but sometimes these low cost airlines that fly around Europe for example can slap on some ridiculous fees for such trivial things, literally the air that you breathe.
I have just recently booked a flight with my preferred airline Etihad for September though admittedly over a 15 day trip for £384 (21,000 baht). With my silver card membership aside from the free on flight meals and drinks I also get guest lounge access at Heathrow, Abu Dhabi and Bangkok as well as 30 kg baggage allowance and 18,000 airmiles. Quality.
The Air Asia X price is a good one and would be hard to match and is definitely at a cost to suit someone on a low budget holiday. Competition is always welcome.
