Bangkok Transit Tour-Stopover up to 12 Hours

If you have up to twelve hours to kill during a stopover in Bangkok then you might well like to consider a Bangkok transit tour offered by the Tourist Authority of Thailand(TAT) and several partners including Thai Airways.

The tours, which started on 1st June 2009, are not more than 12 hours in duration and are designed to give first time visitors an opportunity to get a flavour of Thailand with visits planned to twelve different tourist attractions in and around Bangkok.

Information on the tours will be provided on all inbound Thai Airways flights as well as in the transit areas at Bangkok airport. There are desks provided for tour booking and staff will assist any passengers wishing to avail themselves of the facilities. This includes immigration procedures and it also exempts onward bound passengers from the 500 Baht airport tax.

Unfortunately I can find no information of the cost of these Bangkok transit tours.

Obviously TAT hope that given a tantalising insight into Thailand on a Bangkok transit tour passengers might well return on a holiday to Thailand at a future date. As ideas from TAT go I think this is a more likely winner than some recent offerings that have included a special cocktail and a shopping competition.

PS. The video is worth watching especially if you have never been to Thailand.

Let's start by dealing with the promotional LOS video. There is some beautiful scenery and quite stunning shots in the You Tube slot, but it's the song that got to me. Has Sir Cliff resurfaced as a TAT employee?

The transit tours are an excellent idea and a big pat on the back to TAT. A lengthy transit stopover can become rather tedious so this is an innovative idea from Thailand and I can see it having some success. I would hope the tour pricing policy would be low in reflection of the value Thailand can offer as a tourist destination and I can see many users of the scheme being tempted back to the LOS providing they don't get stuck in a Bangkok traffic jam.

Maybe after the recent airport shoplifting fiasco involving an Irish scientist the TAT perhaps decided that a mix of cocktails and shopping competitions was a bad idea. This Bangkok tour scheme has huge forward potential. Well done TAT.

HD I agree about Sir Cliff, I just played it again and you are right!

The biggest problem is that if you look on the TAT web site you can't find it promoted!

Absolutely stunning scenery but I had to turn the volume down 2 seconds in.

This is definitely something I'd be interested in doing but like you say TAT doesn't seem to want to give up the information.
